At roughly 15 metres, one of Cyprus' tallest waterfalls - reached on a short, shaded nature trail through pine forest from Platres village.

For families: The trail is short and well-marked but uneven in places - better for kids 5+ and sturdy shoes. Cool and shaded even in summer.

Classic Troodos forest walk along the Cold River with little wooden bridges, ending at the 13-metre Caledonia waterfall.

For families: Beautiful but rocky and slippery in places - best for kids 7+ and confident walkers. Cool microclimate makes it a brilliant summer escape.

For families: Easy roadside stop with a lookout, beach access and café. Pebble beach so water shoes help; combine with Kourion or Pissouri on the same trip.

Pissouri Bay

A quieter Blue-Flag bay tucked between cliffs, with calm shallow water, sunbeds and a relaxed strip of seafront tavernas.

For families: Mix of sand and small pebbles - easy for paddling. Less crowded than the Limassol tourist strip, especially mid-week.

Adonis Baths Waterfalls

A small waterfall and natural pool on the Mavrokolympos river, set in a privately-managed park north-west of Paphos with swings, a small museum and traditional taverna.

For families: Access to the site is via a paid entry fee (privately operated). Combine with Paphos old town or Aphrodite's Rock on the same trip - a long day from Limassol but doable.

Avakas Gorge

A dramatic narrow gorge at the start of the Akamas Peninsula, 16 km west of Paphos, with steep walls, rich flora and the endemic Centaurea akamantis plant.

For families: The trail involves rock-hopping and scrambling in places - best for kids 8+, sturdy shoes, and only when the riverbed is dry (avoid after rain). Bring lots of water.

Blue Lagoon, Akamas

A turquoise sheltered bay on the wild Akamas coast, reached either by boat from Latsi/Paphos or by 4×4 along the unpaved Akamas track.

For families: Easiest with kids via a boat tour from Latsi - calm shallow water, snorkelling, swim stops. The 4×4 track is rough and not suitable for regular hire cars.

Kakopetria - Old Mountain Village

A picturesque Troodos village at ~667 m altitude, known for its restored old quarter of stone houses, the Solea river running through it, and nearby UNESCO-listed painted churches.

For families: Cool even in summer - lovely riverside tavernas with trout on the menu. Don't miss the nearby Agios Nikolaos tis Stegis church (UNESCO World Heritage).

For families: Right next to the Limassol Municipal Gardens playground and the seafront promenade, so easy to combine with a picnic and a coffee stop. Compact and fully walkable with little ones.

Cyprus' largest zoo, founded in 2003 around the founder's bird collection. Now home to a wide range of birds and animals plus a Natural History Museum and a Traditional Art Museum on site.

For families: Open 365 days a year. Bird and reptile shows are scheduled through the day - check the timetable on arrival so you don't miss them.

An indoor-outdoor aquarium and tropical garden complex with more than 1,000 species including stingrays, turtles, crocodiles, penguins and piranhas, set across 12,500 m² of grounds.

For families: Plenty of shaded paths and an animal-adoption programme. Pair with a swim at nearby Fig Tree Bay to make a full Protaras day out.

Cyprus' biggest funfair, in operation since 1999 across a 30,000 m² site with more than 25 rides, including the Sling Shot ejection seat and a full set of family rides for younger kids.

For families: Mostly an evening/night-time outing in summer. Mix of toddler rides and serious thrill rides, so easy to find something for every age group.

Kolossi Castle

Choirokoitia Neolithic Settlement

A UNESCO World Heritage site preserving a 7th-millennium BC settlement of round stone houses, with full-scale reconstructions next to the original ruins so you can see how Neolithic Cypriots lived.

For families: The reconstructions make it genuinely tangible for kids. The path up the hill is rocky and exposed, so bring sun hats and water - best avoided in peak summer midday.

Tombs of the Kings, Paphos

For families: Calm shallow water on most days, with a handful of beach tavernas renting sunbeds. Can get windy in the afternoons - mornings are usually best with younger kids.

For families: Multiple small bays separated by rocks - some shallow and family-friendly, others better for snorkelling. Rocks underfoot in places, so water shoes help.

For families: Reached only by 4×4 along an unpaved track, or by boat from Latsi. Nesting season runs roughly June to August - look but don't disturb. No shade or facilities, so pack everything in.

Akrotiri Salt Lake (winter flamingos)

Cyprus' largest inland body of water, a Ramsar-listed wetland that fills each winter and turns pink with hundreds of greater flamingos and other migratory birds from November onwards.

For families: Best viewing is November to March after the rains - the rest of the year the lake is dry. Bring binoculars and stick to the perimeter tracks; the lakebed is fragile.

For families: Cool even in mid-summer (often 10°C colder than the coast). Atalante (~14 km) is largely flat and shaded; Artemis (~7 km) loops around the very top. Bring layers and sturdy shoes.

Easy linear trail starting from Troodos Square through black pine forest to a lookout point with sweeping views down to the southern coast.

For families: One of the gentlest Troodos trails - mostly level forest path. Good for kids who can manage about 3 km out-and-back. Cool and shaded even in midsummer.

Long, mostly flat circular forest trail starting and ending at Troodos Square, looping through the upper slopes of Mount Olympus with several rest benches.

For families: The wide, gently graded forest road makes it surprisingly doable with older kids and teens - confident walkers only because of the length. Plan for several breaks and bring water.

Kannoures – Agios Nikolaos tis Stegis Trail

Linear forest trail from the Kannoures picnic site that descends gently to the UNESCO-listed Byzantine church of Agios Nikolaos tis Stegis near Kakopetria.

For families: Combine the walk with a visit to the painted church and lunch in Kakopetria village. Note the trail is one-way (linear) - arrange a pick-up at the bottom or be ready to walk back uphill.

Flat walking tracks around Akrotiri's wetlands and salt lake - one of the Mediterranean's most important bird sites, with flamingos in winter and rich reedbed wildlife year-round.

For families: Pram-friendly on the wider tracks. Best in autumn–spring when temperatures are mild and migrating birds (including the flamingos) are on the lake. Bring binoculars.

Open-air Saturday market gathering producers and traders from across Cyprus - fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables, traditional Cypriot products, plus stalls with clothing and household goods.

For families: Saturday mornings only, from early morning until midday. Easy stop for a wander with kids - bring cash, baskets and let them pick out fruit. Held under the auspices of Amathounta Municipality.

Bustling Saturday morning open-air market in the city centre - local farmers selling fresh fruit and vegetables, plus halloumi, honey, olive oil, herbs and seasonal Cypriot produce.

For families: Runs every Saturday from early morning (around 6am) until early afternoon. Compact and easy to walk with little ones - great for picking out fruit, smelling herbs and chatting with growers. Bring cash and a basket.

Historic 1917-18 covered market in the heart of the old town - a 3,000 sq m stone building of British colonial architecture, traditionally Limassol's main grocery hall and still a charming stop in the regenerated Saripolou neighbourhood.

For families: Easy to combine with a coffee or lunch on lively Saripolou Square right next door. Pram-friendly indoors. A nice short stop while showing kids the old town - check current opening hours locally as the market has changed in recent years.
