Back-to-school dates in Limassol 2026
The 2026 school year restarts in two waves. According to the Ministry of Education, secondary-school students return on Monday 7 September, and primary-school pupils start on Monday 14 September. Private and international schools often follow slightly different calendars, so check your school's own newsletter if you are unsure.
Those two weeks are the sweet spot for last-of-summer activities, uniform shopping, and gently shifting bedtimes back towards a school rhythm.
Public school uniforms: what to buy and where
In Cyprus, public schools do not have one national uniform. Each school decides its own policy together with the Parents' Association, based on Ministry guidelines. In practice, most primary and secondary pupils wear plain dark trousers, shorts or skirts, a white or light-coloured shirt, and a gym kit for PE days.
Because the uniform is not branded, you can buy it at regular clothing shops. Marks & Spencer Cyprus and FOX School Fox both carry plain white shirts, grey and navy trousers, skirts, and breathable PE shorts. Supermarkets such as Alphamega and Sklavenitis also stock low-cost back-to-school basics during August and September. If your school has sent a specific colour, shop from that list rather than guessing.
Private school uniforms: branded suppliers
Private schools usually require branded uniforms and sometimes specific PE kits. The most reliable source is the school's own parent portal or uniform list. These are the Limassol suppliers we have verified:
- American Academy Limassol runs its own Book & Uniform Store at bookstore.americanacademy.ac.cy. It sells uniforms, books and stationery for kindergarten through secondary.
- Morfosis School points parents to DAKA Kids, which has Limassol stores in Ypsonas and on Kolonakiou Street.
- Richman School Uniforms supplies both private and public schools online and carries a wide range of school-specific items. Useful if you need an unusual size or a late replacement.
For Foley's School, Grammar School Limassol, Pascal and other private schools, check the school's direct instructions before ordering. Some schools open a uniform order window in June and again in late August.
School supplies: Limassol bookshops and supermarkets
Stationery and books are easy to find in Limassol, but the big bookshops get busy in the last week of August. Try to go early, or order what you can online.
- Aristidou Bookshop on Spyrou Kyprianou 109 in Limassol is a long-standing school-supplies shop. Opening hours are typically Monday to Friday 8:30-13:30 and 15:00-19:00, Saturday 8:30-13:30. Phone 25 563640.
- Kyriakou Bookshops in Agios Athanasios is one of the largest bookshops in Cyprus, with Greek and English books plus a full stationery range for school and office.
- Serres Educational Supplies on Z Rossidi Street in Limassol carries educational materials and classroom supplies.
- Alphamega Hypermarkets runs an annual back-to-school campaign with school supplies, gift vouchers and prizes. It is a practical one-stop option if you also need lunch-box snacks and backpacks.
- Sklavenitis and Lidl also carry standard back-to-school basics such as notebooks, pens, pencils, glue, folders and water bottles at competitive prices.
Always check the school's exact list first. Buying a beautifully designed notebook only to find out the teacher requires A4 squared paper is an avoidable mistake.
Preparing your child (and yourself) for the new term
The summer sleep schedule is real, and so is the back-to-school shock. Start moving bedtime and wake-up time 15 minutes earlier every two or three days from the last week of August. It is far less painful than a sudden alarm on 7 or 14 September.
Label everything. School jumpers, water bottles, lunch boxes, shoes and pencil cases all look identical once 300 children are in the same building. Fabric markers and iron-on labels both work.
Prepare the school bag with your child the night before. Even a five-year-old can help pack a water bottle, snack, folder and reading book. It builds independence and reduces morning panic.
For parents, the most useful back-to-school habit is a shared calendar entry for each school deadline: term dates, parents' evenings, uniform order windows, and after-school activity enrolment. Most schools publish these in the first week of term.
Packed lunches that survive the Cypriot heat
Cyprus classrooms and playgrounds are still warm in September. A lunch that works in a cooler climate can turn limp or unsafe here. Pack food that is happy at room temperature and keep perishables cold with an insulated lunch bag and a small ice pack.
Easy wins: - Wholemeal pitta with halloumi, cucumber and tomato, or a simple cheese and ham roll. - Hummus with carrot, cucumber and pepper sticks for dipping. - A boiled egg, peeled at home and wrapped well. - Fresh fruit: grapes, apple slices, cherries, or a small banana. - Olives, cherry tomatoes, and a handful of unsalted nuts for older kids. - A reusable water bottle filled with cold water; freeze half the water the night before and top up in the morning.
Avoid mayonnaise, yoghurt, cream cheese, and sliced meat unless they are kept very cold. Schools vary on nut policies, so check the school rules before sending nuts or nut-based spreads.
Last of the summer: family events and days out before September
Once uniforms are bought and bags are packed, there is still time to finish the holidays properly. These are the verified family-friendly options still running before the school bell rings.
- Fasouri Watermania Waterpark, just west of Limassol, stays open until October. It is the easiest final waterpark day from the city, with a dedicated kids' area and palm-shaded lazy river.
- WaterWorld Themed Waterpark in Ayia Napa is open every day and runs 10:00-17:00 in September. Online tickets currently include a free second-day visit, which makes it worth considering as an overnight or weekend finale.
- Kids Pizza Making Classes at Limassol Agora run every Tuesday from 25 August to 29 September, starting at 16:30. A hands-on, air-conditioned activity right in the Old Town.
- Kaminaria Traditional Flavours Festival takes place on 29 August in the mountain village of Kaminaria. Rural food, wine, music and a cooler evening temperature than the coast.
- Cyberness Oasis Market at Kolla Factory in Limassol runs 5-6 September with street food, local makers, DJs, workshops and activities for all ages.
- Open-Air Movie Nights at Votaniko Parko offer a relaxed evening under the stars in central Limassol, weather permitting.
- For a no-plan day, Dasoudi Beach still delivers shallow water, natural shade from the eucalyptus trees, and a playground on the promenade.
Check the events page and our day trips guide for timings and any last-minute changes before you set out.
After-school activities: sign-ups to know about
September is the main enrolment window for weekly classes. Swimming, football, tennis, gymnastics, dance, martial arts, art, music, theatre and STEM clubs all fill up fast in the first two weeks of term.
Our classes directory lists the verified options in Limassol, from Aris FC Academy and Vania Vrondi Imperial Russian Academy to tennis clubs, swimming schools and coding clubs. Start with one or two activities in the first term rather than over-scheduling. It is much easier to add a class in October than to drop one after three meltdowns.
